Städelschule/MMK Frankfurt
Branding with public impact for two internationally renowned institutions

Project description:
encore – We want more
Two internationally renowned institutions – the Städelschule and the MMK Frankfurt – present Encore, a joint exhibition showcasing 31 graduates. The show brings together works from the classes of Judith Hopf, Christa Näher, Willem de Rooij, Douglas Gordon, Michael Krebber, Simon Starling, and Tobias Rehberger. The title, chosen by the students themselves, points to continuity, progress, and artistic development beyond graduation.
The goal of this unique collaboration was to create a visual identity that captures the open, experimental spirit of the exhibition and communicates it with strong impact.
The design concept translates the idea behind the title into a modular system that can be repeated and combined endlessly. The resulting pattern activates public space in surprising ways – cost-effective and striking at the same time. For the documentation, a new concept for the exhibition catalogue was developed: like a “white cube” on paper, it offers space for all participating artists and their work. The result is a contemporary and confident branding that reflects both the diversity of the works and the excellence of the academic programs.
The exhibition proved to be a success not only in terms of content, but also in communication: visitor numbers doubled compared to the previous year. The innovative design concept played a significant role in boosting visibility.
